Shapes (polygons)

Edit polygons (advanced)

For more advanced editing there are other actions in the polygon tool bar.

To remove a section of a polygon, click to select the ‘Cut’ tool. Start by clicking somewhere outside the polygon, near where you want to make the cut, a point will appear (don’t worry, this is not adding anything new to the map). Then move your cursor and you should see a dotted line between your original point and your cursor. Move the cursor until the line lies where you want to make your cut, then click again. Click to add a third point somewhere outside the polygon, and finally, click to add one more point over the top of your original (to form a triangle). The section of the polygon that is cut through should now be removed.

If you need to add a new shape to an existing polygon you can do it on one of two ways, manually or automatically. In either case, its important to note that both of these actions adds new shapes to an existing area or zone, rather than adding a new area or zone entirely (for that case see the next section)

To add a shape manually, click to select the ‘Add (freeform’ tool. Then click wherever you want to start your shape to add an initial point. Moving the cursor now you should see a dotted line, click again to add another point and so on until you have created your shape. To complete the shape, click over your initial point and new geometry will appear.

Alternatively you can let the tool try to create shape automatically by referencing shapes on the underlying map. Since the shapes detected are from the digital map, it helps to turn the transparency on the map overlay, so you can see how accurate it is. To do this, select the ‘Select by area’ tool. Then click over the shape you want to use as a reference and the shape will be created. Some further adjustments may be required using the core editing actions.
